Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is Caira. I'm an Art major and I play lacrosse for CSUP. In the summers I work as a whitewater raft and kayak guide in Oregon where I'm from. I'm super excited to be in this course and I can't wait to learn from you all.
Hermann Scherer, Mendrisiotto mit Kirche von Obino, 1926, oil on canvas. 110x120cm
I find this artwork by Hermann Scherer to be very beautiful because of its large amount of color. The world is slowly becoming more and more colorless with popular shades of grey, black and white in homes, offices, buildings, and businesses. It's easier to make things uniform and a lot people are starting to really like a clean look or minimalist style. My favorite type of artwork usually displays a big personality with expression of color, pattern and/or texture. It makes me feel alive because its visually stimulating and inspiring. Color, texture, and pattern keep things exciting and I think that in itself if beautiful.

Hi Caira! I am also a big fan of color and love that you pointed out how you interpret beauty as the way the artwork makes you feel. I'm sure there are other people that look at neutral art and feel the same way we do about colorful art - which makes it so personal.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you! I love Oregon, I have family near Portland. I almost moved out there for college once upon a time. Playing lacrosse and kayaking are also really fun and exciting. I really like the colors in the picture that you chose! It’s so true that the modern style is extremely plain. I wish every building was like the st. Basils cathedral in Russia, Moscow.
